Aim:
The Montgomery bus boycott’s purpose was to end racial segregation on the city bus system in a non-violent way. The white Americans believed the African Americans were diseased and unhygienic which is the reason they did not allow the African Americans to ride the bus or sit in the same areas. When the African Americans stopped catching the bus after the Rosa Parks arrest, as a way of protesting with no violence, they walked or took the taxi to their destinations which created economic hardship for the city bus company. ridership decreased by 75-80% as most of the customers were of colored skin. However, expecting local police and politicians to put off the civil rights protest and demolish the taxi system created by the African-American community, the bus company stuck by its segregation rule on buses. Both the city and the bus line citizens had hope to convince African-Americans into riding the buses without changing their segregation policies. The boycott finally ended after 381 days, when the case was taken to the US Supreme Court where the case was won by the African Americans.
